In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, the Ontario Nurses, Association recognizes that our work, and the work of our members, takes place on many traditional Indigenous territories across Ontario. We also wish to acknowledge and recognize that the June 2026 Provincial Coordinators Meeting is taking place on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which is and agreement between the Haudenosaunee and the Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Additionally, we further acknowledge that this land is recognized and covered by the Between The Lakes Purchase of 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. As we begin the PCM in June, we want to think about the seasonal changes happening to the land, and that each moon cycle is associated with spiritual and moral teachings. The Strawberry Moon (Odemiin Giizis), is the heart berry and recognized by Indigenous Peoples because it looks like a heart when cut open. It is an important medicine and is often used in ceremonies. It represents healing and reconciliation. ONA is committed on our reconciliation journey as we engage in discussions to learn together, and to support engagement and partnerships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, governments, organizations, and communities.
