2024 Health and Safety Caucus

Session Title: Preventing and Responding to Violence-Related Incidents in the Workplace

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand updates to Workplace Violence legislation, new case law, and highlights of ONA settlements and/or decisions; 
  • Leveraging the Occupational Health & Safety Act to Mitigate Violent Hazards in the Workplace;
  • Recognize how to evaluate the effectiveness of your employer’s workplace harassment/violence investigation report 
  • Learn how to navigate the nuances of the WSIB to attain an accepted claim following a workplace violence incident

This year’s OHS Caucus theme is ‘Preventing and Responding to Violence-Related Incidents in the Workplace’.

We acknowledge that each of you come to this H&S Caucus with unique life experiences, and these experiences contributes to the way you may perceive and respond to various types of information. Today’s Caucus includes content intentionally curated to achieve the identified learning objectives. Some topics can create feelings of discomfort and upset for some members, and as such we encourage you to take any steps necessary to protect your individual emotional safety, should this be required, including stepping away from the Caucus while a topic is discussed.

A number of staff persons, who are trained in Mental Health First Aid, are also available for support at this caucus should that be required.
